State Police Post Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic Arrests

Connecticut State Police Press Release: Number of arrests show a significant drop from 2010.

Connecticut State Police have released their final tally of enforcement activity for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. According to Lieutenant J. Paul Vance, additional troopers were employed over the long weekend, which officially started at midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 23 and ended at midnight on Sunday, Nov. 27. Troopers focused on apprehending drunk drivers and aggressive drivers.

The final accounting includes 1,276 speeding arrests, 417 seatbelt arrests, 2,745 other hazardous moving violations arrests (which includes unsafe lane changes, following too closely, failure to signal and cell phone use while driving,) 65 arrests for driving under the influence, and 389 accident investigations including 50 injuries. These accidents included two fatalities at Marlborough Route 66 and Blackledge Drive, Route 15, Hartford.

This shows a significant drop in arrests from 2010 when there were 2,255 arrests for speeding, 151 for seatbelt infractions, 3,411 for hazardous moving violations and 80 DUIs. 2010 accidents totaled 391, 57 with injuries and one fatality.

Vance said state troopers will continue their increased enforcement throughout the 2011 holiday season.
