Police Investigating Vandalism at Jewish Cemetery

Police have opened an investigation in who may have vandalized dozens of headstones at New Haven-based synagogues' cemetery in East Haven.

More than a dozen headstones were knocked down by vandals at an East Haven cemetery last week, according to a report in The New Haven Register.

The Bikur Cholim Sheveth Achim cemetery, which is just off Brockett Place, is shared by two New Haven-based Jewish synagogues.

The incident, which occured on Oct. 20, is the second episode of vandalism at the site this month. Several headstones were also reportedly knocked down by vandals on Oct. 5. The cemetery was also vandalized in 2007.
