Police Pursuit Nets Drugs; Suspects Not Yet Found

East Haven police are looking for two people who ditched a vehicle Friday evening after a short pursuit, leaving behind narcotics.

A routine motor vehicle stop Friday night turned into a police pursuit and the discovery of narcotics, according to Deputy Police Chief John Mannion.

Just after 7 p.m., East Haven police stopped a vehicle on North High Street near the I-95 underpass. As police approached, the driver took off triggering a brief pursuit northbound. But, Mannion said, the chase was cancelled.

Instead, police officers in both marked and unmarked cars "followed from a safe distance," not losing sight of the fleeing vehicle as it turned on River Road and onto water company property. Police found the vehicle, unoccupied, ditched on a dirt path there. Two occupants ran from the scene, said Mannion. An unspecified quantity of narcotics was found inside the vehicle, which was seized, he said.
