[UPDATE] Police: Man Assaulted by Several Other Males in East Haven Friday

East Haven Police are seeking information regarding the assault — apparently a retaliatory act following the fatal stabbing of Michael Lieto — which took place late Friday afternoon near Route 80 and Highland Place.

Update at 7:45 p.m.

The New Haven Register's Jennifer Swift is reporting that this afternoon's assault may be a retalitory incident in response to the fatal stabbing of Michael Lieto, which occured during a fight Tuesday along Maplevale Road in East Haven.

Swift reports that the man assaulted Friday is the step-brother of the juvenile male suspect arrested along with Aaron Powell, 21, following Tuesday's fight.

Powell is charged with first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a dangerous weapon, and second-degree breach of peace.

Powell was held on a $1 million bond and was arraigned in New Haven court Wednesday.

The following is a press release from the East Haven Police Department.

On November 16, 2012 at approx. 3:20 pm members of the East Haven Police Department responded to an assault complaint near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Rt. 80. 

Upon arrival they located the victim suffering from lacerations to his face and hands.

He had been assaulted by several males who fled the scene in a grey or black Honda ‘Civic.’

He was treated by emergency personnel for his injuries which were not life threatening. 

Anyone who has information regarding this altercation is asked to call the PD at 203-468-3820.
