Police Briefs: Daro Nabs Suspect; Shots Fired at Baby Shower

East Haven's newly reinstated K-9 unit successfully tracked down a robbery suspect Friday. And police are also investigating reports of shots fired at Jan. 14 baby shower held at Brandford Manor Hall.

Dog Daro sucessfully worked to track down a Branford man who was wanted for allegedly breaking into a Trolley Square Plaza business early Friday morning, according to a New Haven Register report.

The department's K-9 unit was called into service after police received a report 2:30 a.m. of tripped burglary alarm at in the Trolley Square Plaza.

Once on the scene, Daro and Cari encountered an early morning jogger who told the team he had seen a possible suspect in the area.

Daro and Cari then went to that location, tracking the suspect's footprints in that morning's snow, until they eventually encountered Robert Kelly, 25, in a parking lot behind the studio, the Register report states.

Daro, along with his handler Officer David Cari, returned to duty , after the program .

Gunfire at Baby Shower

East Haven Police are investigating a report of several shots being fired during a dispute that erupted during a Jan. 14 baby shower held in the rental hall of 's Brandford Manor Station 4 along George Street.

Police told the New Haven Register witness at the scene reported the shots were fired into the air in an attempt to disperse a large fight that had broken out shortly after 11 p.m. that night when a group of uninvited individuals reportedly attempted to crash the celebration.

Although officers did recover three .40 caliber bullet shell casings at the scene, so far their investigation has no found evidence of anyone actually being shot.

East Haven Police repoted that the party's host has been cooperative with their investigation. However, many of those in the parking lot during the incident — some of whom do not speak English as their primary language — have not been, police told the Register.

East Haven Fire Chief Douglas Jackson added that incidents like these are highly unusual during events at the department's rental halls.
