Motorcyclist Killed on West Frontage

The victim was traveling at high speed and wasn't wearing a helmet.

This morning at 1:15, a 39-year-old man crashed his motorcycle into a guard rail, which took his life, according to East Haven police.

Michael Barboza, of New Haven, was traveling at a "high rate of speed" when he struck the guard rail steel protector on West Frontage Road, near the entrance of I-95, Deputy Chief John Mannion said in a written statement.

Barboza was reportedly not wearing a helmet.

Both East Haven and New Haven police responded to the accident. Barboza was treated at the scene and then taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, still alive, wrote Mannion. At 1:40 a.m., he died. The Chief Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy, said Mannion.

An  investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the East Haven Police Department at 203.468.3820.
