Mass Shooting Stories, Ammunition Found in Home of UNH Suspect

Police recovered newspaper clippings of mass shootings and firearm contraband from the home of a Fairfield man who allegedly took an assault weapon and two handguns onto the grounds of University of New Haven Tuesday.

William Dong, 22, of 1336 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, was charged with illegal possession of an assault weapon, illegal transport of an assault weapon, breach of peace and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at approximately 1:11 a.m.

Dong, who is a student at UNH, was taken into custody by West Haven Police on Tuesday afternoon, bringing about an end to a situation that led to the lockdown for several hours of the university's West Haven campus, as well as nearby local schools.

Dong holds a valid pistol permit to carry handguns and has two known and legally registered weapons, according to Fairfield Sergeant Suzanne Lussier.

West Haven police executed a search warrant of Dong’s home on Stratfield Road in Fairfield Tuesday night and found several items, including numerous pistol magazines, ammunition, and newspaper clippings of mass shootings, according to Sgt. David Tammaro of the West Haven Police Department.

Dong was held in lieu of $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court Wednesday.

West Haven Police are continuing to investigate, according to Tammaro.
