Lennon Sworn In As New East Haven Police Deputy Chief

The following is a press release from the East Haven Mayor's Office.

Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. announced this morning that, shortly after noon today, he will be swearing in the East Haven Police Department ‘s next Deputy Police Chief – current Lieutenant Edward Lennon Jr.

Maturo explained, “Since arriving in East Haven and in rising through the ranks of our police department, Ed Lennon has demonstrated remarkable drive, enthusiasm, and responsibility.  More recently, in helping to supervise the Town’s compliance with the Department of Justice consent decree, he has demonstrated incredible leadership.  It is without hesitation that I can say he is certainly one of the finest, young police executives in the nation and I am proud to be swearing him in as Deputy Police Chief today.”

In discussing Ed Lennon’s appointment as Deputy Chief, the Mayor especially highlighted the significance of the promotion coming from within the East Haven Police Department.

Maturo noted, “Just two short years ago, in the wake of unprecedented challenges and turmoil within our Police Department, I sought out Brent Larrabee, a veteran in the law enforcement community but a stranger to East Haven policing, to begin to stabilize and rebuild our Police Department.  At the time, the situation demanded the attention of an outsider who could come in and take the steps necessary to rebuild out police department.”

In contrast, Maturo continued, “Today, it is clear that our department has turned the corner and is on its way to being one of the best small police departments in the nation. Our police personnel, in meeting and exceeding almost every requirement of the DOJ’s consent decree, have made enormous strides in restoring trust in our police department.  Our Police Department has demonstrated that it is ready for one of our own to assume a strong, leadership role within the Department. Perhaps more importantly, our Department has demonstrated that it is worthy of our community’s trust in taking this enormous step forward.”

Maturo explained, “I often speak about the signing of the consent decree as one of the most pivotal points in our Town’s history.  Today marks another such point.  Ed Lennon ‘s promotion marks the beginning of a new era of self-sufficiency and accountability for our Police Department.”

Maturo concluded, “I am immensely proud of our Police Department and I congratulate Ed Lennon, once again, on this tremendous honor.  I look forward to continuing to work with Deputy Chief Lennon, Chief Larrabee, and the entire police community to building a strong, accountable Police Department for our community.”
