Larcenies, Burglaries Top Crimes in East Haven

And iems stolen from motor vehicles are the top type of larceny committed here in town.

The vast majority of crimes committed in East Haven are larcenies, with burglaries coming in a distant second.

According to the most recent crime statistics available from the state, there were 863 reported crimes in East Haven in 2011.

The crime data comes from the "Annual Report of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program," which is published by the Crimes Analysis Unit of Connecticut's Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.

East Haven police cleared 105 or some 17 percent of its larceny cases.

"Crimes cleared," refers to the number of crimes that either resulted in an arrest, or "some element beyond police control" precluded the arrest of the offender, (such as the death of the offender) according to the description contained in the crime report.

There were no reported murders in East Haven during 2011.
