Four Fatalities Over Holiday Weekend; More than 2,000 Speeding Tickets Issued

Memorial Day Weekend was a busy on for CT State Troopers.

According to the Connecticut State Police Department of Public Safety, Memorial Day weekend was a busy one for troopers who reported 260 motor vehicle accidents with four fatalities.

From Friday at midnight through Monday at 5 p.m., the State Police reported 260 accidents; 18 with injury. There were four total fatalities in Groton on I-95 and in Bolton on Route 85. The State Police made 70 DWI (driving while under the influence) arrests, issued 978 seat-belt tickets and 2,013 speeding tickets.

State Police utilized additional troopers who manned sobriety checkpoints, targeted DWI and aggressive driving and patrol across the state through the holiday weekend. Police urge drivers to call 911 if they see someone who appears to be driving drunk.
