Fire Shuts Down Metro-North Train

East Haven Fire Department responds to report of train fire.

A reported fire on the roof of a Metro-North train carrying 350 people has shut down service in the vicinity of East Haven.

Deputy Fire Chief Chuck Licata said firefighters are on scene, on the tracks behind Home Depot, where it appears components on the roof of the train caught fire.

No injuries have been reported, but firefighters are going through the train to check on the welfare of passengers.

Licata said Metro-North has already called for another train to come to the scene, either to pick up the passengers or to tow the existing train to the nearest station.
