[UPDATED] East Haven Police: Roadway Dirt Bike, Quad Drivers Arrested

Three arrests were made — and two dirt bikes and one quad were seized — after the out-of-town riders were located by East Haven Police.

UPDATE TUESDAY at 12:35 p.m.

Although the town's new ATV/dirt bike ordinance was not used to actually arrest and charge the three riders, it was used to seize their vehicles, according to Lt. David Emerman, the East Haven Police Department's public information officer.

The following is a press release from the East Haven Police Department. 

On November 17, 2013 at approximately 1:03 p.m., East Haven Police Department officers responded to the area of Massachusetts Avenue for a report of quads and dirt bikes being operating on the roadway.

Additional calls were received regarding these vehicles in the areas of Boston Avenue, and Proto Drive. 

Officers located some of these vehicles operating on East Haven roadways, but the vehicles fled when officers approached.

Just after 3:00 p.m., some of the dirt bikes and quads were located by Police on Boston Avenue, loading their vehicles onto a trailer. Three arrests were made, and two dirt bikes and one quad were seized. 

One other male fled the scene on a dirt bike and was not located. It was learned through investigation that the suspects had trailered their dirt bikes and quad to East Haven from Milford and Shelton.

A 17 year old juvenile male of Milford, CT was charged with Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, Reckless Driving, Operating an Unregistered M/V, Disobeying an Officer’s Signal, Operating an ATV on a Public Highway. 

The 17 year old juvenile was released on a juvenile summons.

Nicholas Dupuis (DOB 7-21-1994) of Shelton, CT was charged with Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Possession of Less Than 4 Ounces of Marijuana, Disobeying an Officer’s Signal, Reckless Driving, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, ATV Failure to Stop upon Officer’s Signal, and Operating an ATV on a Public Highway. Dupuis was released after posting a $5000.00 bond. 

Dupuis has a court date of November 27, 2013 at New Haven Superior Court.

Samuel Tomlinson (DOB 9-16-1995) of Milford, CT was charged with Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, Disobeying an Officer’s Signal, Reckless Driving, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, ATV Failure to Stop upon Officer’s Signal, and Operating an ATV on a Public Highway. Tomlinson was released after posting a $5000.00 bond. 

Tomlinson has a court date of November 27, 2013 at New Haven Superior Court.
