East Haven Police Investigation Ends In Assault Arrest

Juan Cruz was charged with assault and reckless endangerment after he allegedly stabbed a man in the leg during an argument over a parked car last month.

An investigation has led to charge an East Haven man with assault after he allegedly stabbed another man in the leg during an arguement over a car parking issue.

Juan Cruz, 34, of 199 Coe Avenue in East Haven, was charged March 13 with first-degree assault and first degree reckless endangerment in relation to that occured Feb. 17 at a Stevens Street residence in East Haven.

According to East Haven Police Lt. Joseph Slane, the victim had been visiting a residence on Stevens Street that night. When he attempted to leave at about 8:30 p.m., however, another unoccupied vehicle blocked his way.

Slane said the victim returned to the residence to have the vehicle moved. Apparently, at that time, an argument began during which time Cruz — who owned the vehicle — reportedly punched the victim in the face and a fight ensued.

Slane said during the fight the suspect stabbed the victim in the leg.

Treatment Sought at Fire Department

The victim was able to leave the residence and was driven to the for treatment to his injuries. The victim was then transported to Yale New Haven Hospital by American Medical Response for further medical treatment.

Slane said the victim did not know Cruz prior to the alleged assault.

Warrant Served at Court

Following their investgiation, East Haven Police obtained an arrest warrant for Cruz, which was served at court located at 121 Elm Street in New Haven.

Cruz was arrested and held on a $100,000 bond.

Slane added that there is no arrest photo of Juan Cruz because the warrant was served and the arrest made at court.
