East Haven Police Investigating Fatal One-Car Accident

Police are asking for the public's help in investigating three separate motor vehicle accidents that occurred Tuesday — including a fatal crash along Coe Avenue.

Fatal Coe Avenue Crash

At about 10:58 a.m., a one-car motor vehicle accident was reported on Coe Avenue near Proto Drive.

According to East Haven Police Sgt. David Emerman, the department's initial investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound on Coe Avenue, crossed over the northbound traffic lanes, off the roadway and into a wooded area. 

The operator was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Emerman said the victim's name was being withheld until appropriate notifications are made.

"At this time, the cause of the accident is believed to be a medical condition," Emerman stated in a press release.

Hemingway Avenue

At about 11:06 a.m., a three-car motor vehicle accident occurred on northbound Hemingway Avenue near Wells Fargo Bank.

Although the incident was initially reported to be a head-on accident, Emerman stated the incident was determined "to be a rear-end collision."

No serious injuries were reported.

North High Street

At about 2:01 p.m. in the area of 591 North High Street, a rollover motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles was reported. 

"Initial investigation indicates that a vehicle traveling northbound on North High Street rear ended a second vehicle, causing the second vehicle to roll over onto its roof," Emerman stated.

He added that several people were transported to the hospital.

Their injuries, however, are unknown at this time. 

Under Investigation

Emerman noted that all three accidents remain under investigation.
