East Haven Police Department to Host Open House Dec. 10 (VIDEO)

In addition, Local 1662 — the union that represents the department's officers — currently is collecting nonperishable items to benefit the East Haven-based Connecticut Food Bank.

The is inviting members of the community to visit the department's North High Street headquarters Saturday, Dec. 10 for an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

East Haven Police Sgt. John Miller, who also serves as the president of — the union that represents the department's officers — and Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr discuss the upcoming event in the video featured in the gallery that accompanies this article.

Also, Local 1662 currently is sponsoring a nonperishable food drive to benefit the East Haven-based . The department has placed a donation box in the foyer of the department's headquarters, and members of the community are welcome to drop off items to assist the effort.

Det. Thomas Russel told East Haven Patch that in addition to collecting non-perishable items, officers are also hoping to conduct turkey drives to benefit the local nonprofit group in the future, as well.
