East Haven Police Commission Votes To Stop Paying Cop Dennis Spaulding

Spaudling has been on paid leave since early 2012, and collected more than $87,000 in salary during that time, after he was arrested for allegedly mistreating Latinos.

Suspended East Haven Police Officer Dennis Spaulding will no longer receive a paycheck from the town.

The New Haven Register reports that Tuesday night, the East Haven Board of Police Commissioners unanimously voted to place Spaulding on unpaid suspension, meaning he will no longer be paid by the town. Spaulding was on paid leave since early 2012 after the United States Department of Justice arrested him for allegedly profiling and mistreating Latinos.

Spaulding had collected at least $87,000 in salary while he was on paid leave, and will still receive and accrue benefits while on unpaid suspension, according to the New Haven Register. The four-member police commission agreed to stop paying Spaulding after a half-hour executive session with Spaulding, his lawyer, a town lawyer and the police union's lawyer, according to the New Haven Register.

Three other East Haven police officers were arrested as well as part of the justice department's investigation. The three have since retired, according to the New Haven Register.
