According to East Haven Interim Police Chief Brent Larrabee, Crespo — who speaks Spanish — is the first Hispanic female to join the department. She had previously served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army

Larrabee added that he expects the town to hire two more officers in the near future. The department has been understaffed in the wake of the arrest of four East Haven Police officers, as well as some recent retirements earlier this year.
