East Haven Pays $450,000 to Settle Civil Rights Claims
Mayor says settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing
East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. said Monday that despite the town settling alleged civil rights violations against the Police Department for $450,000 it is in now way an “admission of wrongdoing,” the New Haven Register reports.
Maturo in a statement says the settlement is important for the healing process to continue, the Register reports.
The East Haven Police Department has been under scrutiny for years for alleged civil rights violations against Hispanic residents and business owners.

The suit, which dates back to 2010, alleges 22 East Haven police officers intentionally tried to drive Hispanics from the town through discrimination and intimidation, the New Haven Register reports.
