East Haven Woman Shops While Children Remain In Hot Parked Car in North Haven, Cops Say

The children were left in the hot parked car for 16 minutes.

A 27-year-old East Haven woman went shopping while she allegedly left an infant and toddler in a hot parked car Monday night, North Haven police said in a release.

Police said officers responded at 9:26 p.m. to the Target parking lot on Universal Drive for a report of young children left in a car.

Officers found an infant and a toddler in a locked vehicle with the windows marginally opened, police said in a release.

The investigation found that a 27 year-old East Haven woman took one infant child into the store but left the other children in the vehicle because they were sleeping, police said.

The children, who were not injured, were found to be unattended in the large parking lot for nearly 16 minutes, police said.

The woman, whose name was not given, was charged with leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle and will appear in Meriden Superior Court.

On Monday night a 15 month-old Ridgefield baby died after being left in a hot car. Police are investigating that incident.
