East Haven Man Wanted in Five Towns Nabbed by Milford Police

An man was arrested at his home by members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force with multiple warrants for his arrest from different towns, which stem from incidents of larceny in Milford, West Haven and Berlin, police said.

The has two outstanding warrants for 44-year-old Michael Cancel’s arrest after he was accused of cashing a fraudulent check at a Naugatuck Avenue business in September 2011, police said.

In addition to Milford, Cancel is also wanted by the towns of West Haven and Berlin for failing to appear in court on three separate occasions to face charges related to larceny, forgery and issuing bad checks, police said.

The towns of New Haven and Wallingford also have outstanding warrants for Cancel’s arrest, police said.

Cancel was charged with first-degree forgery, sixth-degree larceny, and three counts of second-degree failure to appear.

He is being held on $24,000 bond and a court date has not yet been released.

The U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force is comprised of officers from the West Haven, Hamden and Milford Police Departments under the direction of the U.S. Marshals Service.
