East Haven Man Arrested for String of Bank Robberies

On Dec. 9, members of the Madison Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and the  Criminal Investigation Division arrested the primary suspect in connection with the  and the .

The Madison Police Department and North Branford detectives–with the cooperation of the Plainfield Police Department, New Haven Office of the FBI and Members of the Connecticut State Police–identified Christopher Bishop as the primary suspect in the Liberty Bank robbery. 

Bishop, 37, of Philip Street, East Haven, was taken into custody by Madison and North Branford detectives on Dec. 9 and transported to the Madison Police Department for processing.

He was arrested for third-degree larceny and breach of peace by the Madison Police Department and held on $250,000 court-set bond.

Bishop was also arrested the North Branford Police Department on a valid arrest warrant for the same charges. He is being held on a $100,000 court-set bond for that arrest. His court date is Dec. 12.

Subsequent investigation has revealed that Bishop is also responsible for the recent bank robberies in Waterbury, Meriden, Essex and Plainfield. The investigation into these robberies is ongoing at this time.

On Dec. 6, 2011, the members of the Madison Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and the  Criminal investigation Division with the cooperation of the Plainfield Police Department, New Haven Office of the FBI and Members of the Connecticut State Police identified the primary suspect in connection with the Nov. 18, 2011 Liberty Bank Robbery in Madison, police said Thursday.

Police were also able to locate the suspects vehicle, a Geo Tracker, which was the vehicle used in several of the areas other bank robberies. The vehicle was seized and brought to the Madison Police Department.

Madison and North Branford Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant on charges relating to the Nov. 18 robbery. The suspect's name is being withheld at this time pending an arrest.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the same individual may also be responsible for the recent bank robberies in Waterbury, , Meriden, Essex and Plainfield.

The investigation into these robberies is ongoing at this time. A press conference is being held at Madison Police Department at 3 p.m. Details to follow.
