East Haven High School Graduate Promoted to Detective

He grew up in East Haven.

Police Officer Anthony Vaspasiano, who grew up in East Haven, was promoted to detective for the Fairfield Police Department, Monday at a ceremony.  

Vaspasiano received the department’s lifesaving medal which was awarded after he rescued a person trapped in a vehicle that was being overcome by floodwaters. Vaspasiano is an East Haven High School graduate. 

Detective Anthony Vaspasiano is a 13-year veteran of the Fairfield Police Department.  After growing up in East Haven and graduating from East Haven High School in 1995, Detective Vaspasiano went on to Salve Regina University graduating in 1999 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration of Justice.

For the past eight years he has been a member of the dive team and an alternate on the marine unit.  

Detective Vaspasiano was once a member of the Eagle 1 Search and Rescue Program where he became certified in helicopter search and rescue diving.

As one of the founding members of the department’s Crisis Intervention Team Program, Vaspasiano has received specialized training in recognizing and assisting people and families struggling with mental illness, addiction, and suicide risk.  

Since February of this year, Detective Vaspasiano has been working in temporary position in the detective bureau, primarily focusing on burglaries.
