East Haven Gun Buyback Event Draws Few Residents

Just a handful of people came to East Haven's gun buyback event this Saturday.

This Saturday, few people turned out for a gun buyback event at East Haven Town Beach put on by the town in response to the Newtown shootings.

The New Haven Register reports that as of noon on Saturday, the town had only collected four guns, and it was only expecting to collect around 15 total. At the event, residents could anonymously turn in their guns to the East Haven Police Department to earn a $50 gift certificate to either Forbes Premium gas station or Stop & Shop.

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo encouraged the police department to hold the event following the Newtown shootings, according to the newspaper.
