Quick action by East Haven firefighters saved a Suppa Drive home from being reduced to ashes after it caught fire late Thursday morning.

The fire at 44 Suppa Drive was first reported at 11:37 a.m., according to East Haven Fire Department's dispatch alerts.

Assistant Chief Chuck Licata told Patch that the blaze was called in by a United Illuminating crew working in the area.

He added that the homeowners were also in the vicinity, but were not in the home at that time.

'They Knocked It Down Fast'

Once at the scene, firefighters moved quickly to put out the fire and stop it from spreading to other areas of the home.

"They knocked it down fast," Licata said.

No residents or firefighters were injured during the incident.

Fire Began In Furnace Room

The home's residents are currently unable to stay there following the fire. Licata said, however, the damage was moderate and they will be able to move back in following repairs.

In the meantime, the homeowners are working with their insurance company to secure temporary housing.

Although the fire's cause has officially been ruled as "undetermined," Licata said it does appear the blaze began in the area of the home's furnace room.

Third Fire In Three Days

The Suppa Drive blaze makes the third fire in three days for the EHFD.

The department responded to a garage/car fire on Edgehill Drive on Wednesday, and a structure fire on Vista Drive on Tuesday.

There were no reported injuries in either incident.
