Clean Out Your Cabinets: East Haven 'Drug Take-Back Day' Saturday

Unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs will be accepted at the East Haven Police Department this Saturday.

Local residents who want to safely dispose of potentially dangerous prescription drugs are asked to discard them this Saturday at East Haven Police Headquarters as part of National Drug Take-Back Day.

The effort, led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, is aimed at taking commonly abused drugs out of circulation.

East Haven residents can turn in any unused or expired medication Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the department headquarters, 471 N High Street.

No questions will be asked of people disposing of pills or other medications, according to organizers.

"This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue," according to the DEA. "Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends."
