Capone Promises to Reconsider Police Canine Unit

Message from East Haven Police Union Local 1162.

As a result of the town’s indefinite suspension of the canine program and due to officer safety and public safety concerns, the union has been striving to have the canine program remain active and intact.

Wednesday afternoon, Mayor April Capone and other town officials, including Deputy Chief John Mannion, met with the president of the East Haven Police union and others to discuss the future of the East Haven Police canine program. The mayor sought union input and agreed that a partnership between the town, police administration and the union is important.

The mayor ended the meeting pledging to fully explore all options pertaining to the canine program. In the interest of public safety concerns raised by the union, the mayor agreed to consider immediate reinstatement of the canine program pending further review.
