Accident on I-95 N Sends Two to Hospital with Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

An accident on I-95 North this afternoon sent an elderly woman to Yale-New Haven Hospital with "probably" a fractured leg, police say. Her passenger, a young boy - though conscious and alert - was also transported for evaluation.

A two-car accident on I-95 North at 2:30 p.m. today sent two people - an elderly woman and a young teenage boy - to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The elderly woman driver "probably" fractured her leg, in addition to some other trauma, said East Haven Battalion Chief Robert Celentano. He said the boy, though "conscious and alert," was transported to Yale-New Haven for evaluation as well.

The accident happened on the Saltonstall Bridge, which is on the border of East Haven and Branford, said Celentano. Traffic was reduced to one lane but by 4 p.m. the area had cleared up, he said.

The woman and the boy were in the same car, and the people in the other vehicle involved in the crash refused treatment, said Celentano.

State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
