My Ambitions and Qualifications

Patrick Madley Discusses Running for the BOE

First off, please, let me say I am sorry that I was not able to post this towards the end of last week. I said I would have an article about my qualifications for the East Haven Board of Education and here it is.

The East Haven Board of Education is the governing body of the school district where the members are either elected or appointed to represent the public. The BOE has a few responsibilities but the main one I found is they set policy. I mention this only because some people have approached me and asked what I plan to do. I mentioned in my last blog my goals and objectives. As long as they stay within the parameters of "policy" which includes the budget, by the way, I can still go through with my plans. Now on to my qualifications.

I am a recent graduate of the East Haven Education System- For this reason, I have a firm grasp on what needs to be changed and what should stay the same. It is a different perspective from which people can benefit.

I am a full-time student in college where I am majoring in Biology and soon-to-be pyschology. My goals for my education are to study to become a doctor AND become a college professor in the medical field.

When in high school I received numerous awards attesting to my character from the Secretary of State's Volunteerism Award (One student from each school received the award) to numerous scholarships for an array of reasons.

I held several leadership roles in high school.

I am running for the BOE for the students and nobody else. To answer an earlier question asked to me, no, I have no family seeking employment with the BOE nor will any of my family be seeking employment with the BOE.

Not really a qualification but, I have been attending BOE meetings for essentially the last five years. This attests to how interested I am in the education system.

I ask that if I did not answer any questions that you please comment and ask me them. I am willing to answer any questions you may have. Thank you.
