Coming to an End

School year is ending.

Well, June is here. That marks the end of the current school year. The school year ends on June 28 this year. The senior class graduates that day at the high school at 6 pm. This year was filled with many different things to talk about. I will start in May since that's when one of the biggest events occured.

From May 2 to May 5, the school participated in Healthy Youth Week. Healthy Youth week started on that Monday. The biggest events of Healthy Youth Week were on that Tuesday and Thursday. On Tuesday there was a mock car crash to show what can happen to you if you drink and drive. Two wrecked cars were brought up to the high school to show what can happen if you're involved in an accident. The fire department, AMR, and the police department all participated in this. It was run by the SADD group. Along with that, 100 students who handed in a permission slip for the seat belt convincer, which is a state police device that simulates a car going five miles per hour, and were picked at random, got to try the convincer. Those students seemed to enjoy it.

Then on Thursday, the school invited about 50 vendors from the area to come in to talk about health. Attendance was made by many places including gyms, sex education facilities, and health stores, along with many other places. There was even a zumba class in the gym. There was fruit given out to students so they would have something healthy to eat while touring the vendors.

The biggest thing that happened all year was held on June 10. This was field day. There was no media coverage for this event but that's where I come in.

I hadn't had a field day since elementary school so this was something nice to have. There was a lot to do. There was Italian ice to have, a dunk tank which the prinicipal, mayor, and several teachers participated in. There was a rock climbing wall, which was sponsored by the Army, an ultimate frisbee contest, water activities on the football field, tennis matches, arts and crafts, chess and checkers, a faculty/student softball game, basketball games inside and outside, and a home run contest. There was also fruit given out at this event so students would have something good to eat. The day was very hot but fun. The day ended with a huge game of tug-o-war between many many many people. It was a great day.

This school year was full of fun and excitement for the entire school. If there is something I learned this year, it's that if there is something you want, keep at it. Eventually, you'll get what you want if you keep going for it. That's how I made it through this school year. Working at what I want and getting it. Sometimes you need to work longer than other times but in the end, it's all worth it.
