Town Services

Well, Once again, calling the town of East Haven Department of Public Works results in a non responsive, no action taken answer. I live on a short block, (Hotchkiss Rd. Ext.), just off Thompson in East Haven and just four blocks from City Hall. One side of our street has no houses and therefor, there is always a a large amount of weed and brush growth that is at least 5-6 feet high and has not only become a hiding place for skunks and other animals but because the town will not regularly maintain it, has started growing into the street, destroying the street pavement and resulting in a narrowing of the street. My wife and I have called the town to advise that the weeds must be cut down. The last response that we got was "I'll put it on the complaint list". Complaint list? Seriously? What is this--1955? There must be more accountability in this town for the lack of services provided. WHat exactly does the town use to log these "complaints" the back of some old McDonalds bag from someone's lunch? Is there a database on a computer that lists specific types of issues and assigns a priority to them? The fact that the banners are still up advertising the Fourth of July fireworks is a clear sign to anybody passing through our town that East Haven is not on top of its game with street maintenance service. I will be voting for the candidate who makes these issues a priority. People need to wake up because if they don't, our town is going to continue to slide down and become a slum. One need not look to far to see just how poorly our school system is rated. Property values are not great, taxes go up and services are lacking. Let's take the new traffic light at the corner of Main Street where the local CVS is located. Anybody that has sat at that light has clearly seen that there is a major timing issue with the light. We have made two calls to report this and have seen no changes.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
