Patch’s Poll: Do You Think It’s Okay for Malloy to Campaign For Obama?

The Connecticut Republican chairman criticized the governor for making a trip to New Hampshire this past weekend to give a speech for the president.

In a presidential election year, the state of New Hampshire is again in play as a swing state. With that, politicians who do not represent The Granite State are flying in to campaign for both President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy paid a visit to Hampton, N.H., over two hours away from Hartofd, to campaign for Obama in front of an audience of about 100 people.

According to a story in The Day newspaper, Malloy noted that 2012 is going to be a close election and that he’s “not going to shy away from doing everything in my power to make sure people understand what’s at stake.”

Jerry Labriola Jr., the chairman of Connecticut’s Republican party, told the newspaper that the governor was making a “political trip” involving “thousands of dollars in expenses.” An administration official disputed his cost estimate.

Do you think it’s okay for Gov. Dannel Malloy to campaign for President Obama if it doesn’t cost taxpayer dollars? Take our poll and share your thoughts in the comments.

I think it is ok for him to take the trip to New Hampshire and expenses should be treated as if it were a personal vacation. Governor Malloy is not sentenced to 4 years in Connecticut without leaving. The reality of politics is he has to support his party and in return he is has some leverage over those in his party's leadership in Washington. It is the world we live in so accept it and just because we may not support President Obama it doesnt mean our elected officials should not be smart about politics

Why shouldnt he?

As long as no taxpayer funds are involved, Malloy and other prominent politicians in CT can campaign for the candidate of their choices. Mr. Labriola does not seem to understand that a Gov. of a state can be out of state and still govern. Get you facts straight and provide PROOF before makind wild accusations.

Campaigning for The President is fine as long as the tax payers are not paying the bill. This has always been an issue and will continue to be an issue until we have elected officials that place integrity, honesty and moral values above money. If you are doing any campaigning then the trip should be paid by the party you are doing the campaigning for and not paid for by the tax payers. Just be honest about it, that is all we want.

As long as it was one of his vacation days.... we don't have employers who pay for us to pursue personal interests while the employer pays for our gas/transportation/meals/security/personal assistant, etc., and I know that's not what my tax dollars should be paying for. Connecticut should be the only focus while on Connecticut's clock and expense.

If he really wants to waste his time campaigning for a looser, sure he can knock himself out.

Are we sure that no State funds are financing the trip? If not, I don't care. If so, I care a lot.

Of course state funds are being used. Gas for his state car, payroll for driver and security, most likely all on OT. If its an over-nighter then room and food costs, all out of pocket, I am sure re-paid by the state. The NH state democratic party should be footing the bill not the taxpers of CT. But OH no, just like the screwing Westport got when BO came into town for a high priced dinner by one of the 1%'ers he claims he hates.

Malloy stumping for Obama can only be good for Romney. Talk about no record to run on, Malloy is terrible!
