Open Letter to Representative Albis and Senator Fasano
Last Year a sizeable grant (one of the largest for school districts) was awarded to East Haven for School Security Improvements. Who is keeping track of how this money is being spent and on what. I can say, from first hand observations especially at the High School, next to nothing appears to have been done. The physical security as well as the overall seriousness of the policies and procedures are actually quite frankly a joke.
Considering the amount of money that was allocated, AND the amount of time that has passed. I think the School district should put forward what’s been improved, and to whom this money has been given to (if any). I don’t recall any bids being awarded etc. and the one improvement at the High School ( a Walmart level intercom, poorly installed, 10 feet from a manned guard post) has been rumored to have cost over 10,000.00.
Since an entire school year has gone by, I believe these questions should be answered. Looking at how actual incidents were handled by the school, I have a high belief of incompetence when it comes to safety issues, not just at the High School but other schools in town, one of which didn’t run a lock down drill until right after Christmas break. This was also where security inadequacies were called to light.
