The closure had been scheduled to allow for the installation of a new box culvert just north of the Amtrak Railroad bridge.

DOT officials reported, however, that the contractor in charge of the box culvert project has already been able to "complete work under regular lane closure conditions."

Lane Closures Continue

Still, state transportation officials noted that along Route 1 in Branford there still will be lane closures  — as opposed to a full road closure — beginning Sunday at 8 p.m., an already frequent ongoing occurrence during the course of the project.

The DOT reports that area motorists can expect lane closures or alternating one way traffic on Route 1 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday night through Thursday night.
