Forecasting the Weather in East Haven Is More Complex Than You Think!

East Haven's Split Weather Zones: How much does the beach really effect us?

East Haven is located right on the water. Whether it is the summer or the winter, Long Island Sound plays a big role on the temperatures in East Haven (and other towns on beaches), and determines rain or snow.

In the winter, temperatures are warmer at night on the beach because the water (about 40º) stabilizes the temp from falling, like inland places. But, if you get a warm day like today, temps will be dramatically cooler on the beach.

On the East Haven Town Beach, I have a weather station reading 46º and another station (same model) is reading 54º in the center of town. Over that 2 mile distance, weather can range a lot .

I personally find that when a news channel says "shoreline" temps it only means the beaches and about 1 mile inland. Inland forecast tend to be anything more than 1 mile inland, not just northern CT.

I look forward to writing about East Haven's weather in the future. The picture is a map I drew of East Haven, showing the temp zones. The blue is effected by the water and the red is considered inland, minimal effects from the water.
