EH High Students attend Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN!

Three members of HOSA- Future Health Professionals attended the week-long HOSA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN from June 24 - 30, 2013.

The Keynote Speaker was Dr. Ben Carson, a world famous neurosurgeon. His biography, Gifted Hands, has been a HOSA reading book in the past and he was well known to the 5,500 high school students who attended the conference.  He received a standing ovation both as he walked on stage and after his speech.

Jenna Gaudioso, President of Connecticut HOSA and Jessica Poirier, State Parliamentarian participated in the conference as Voting Delegates.  They listened to the campaigning and voted in the formal business meeting to elect the National Executive Council for next year.

As Connecticut HOSA President, Jenna was the Opening Session Flag-Bearer for Connecticut and attended a State President's Reception the first evening.

As a medal winner at the Connecticut State Conference, Jessica was able to compete against the top 3 winners  from all the other states in Job Seeking Skills, where she was interviewed by two healthcare professionals who also graded her resume and cover letter.

Destiney Coward also attended and participated in many Educational Symposiums, and numerous other activities.  Destiney was particularly interested in hearing Dr. Carson speak because her career goal is to become a neurosurgeon.

One morning was spent touring Nashville, where the students visited the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium and the Parthenon.

The students wore professional attire for all conference activities.  Their appearance and behavior as they represented not just East Haven, but the entire State of Connecticut made me very proud and I am confident that everyone from East Haven would have felt the same way.
