Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting victims and survivors of alcohol and drugged related crashes. Every day a victim advocate is in court with a family supporting them through the criminal justice process.
Though this is our main mission at MADD, we also strive to stop the crime of drunk driving and prevent underage drinking.
As a result of the initiative to prevent underage drinking, MADD along with Connecticut State's Attorney's developed a program called MAP to reach out to those under the age of 21 currently involved in the criminal justice process.
The MADD Alternative Program (MAP) is designed by Mothers Against Drunk Driving to reach out to individuals under the age of 21 who are currently involved with the criminal justice system.
The goal of MAP is to educate these individuals on the dangers and consequences of underage drinking, minors in possession and other violations of Connecticut motor vehicle laws such as speeding, texting while driving and lack of seatbelt use, and to prevent future occurrences of these crimes.
Designed as a one-time opportunity, MAP allows individuals charged with these particular offenses to attend a two- to three-hour program offered though state’s attorneys as a way to dispose of their case as opposed to having to plead guilty to the charges. Parents of children 16-18 years old attending the program are required to attend as well.
