Section 504, Title II and Students with Disabilities in Public Schools

On Tuesday, May 20, 2014, Connecticut Parent Advocacy Center will host a presentation by the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights entitled, “Section 504, Title II and Students with Disabilities in Public Schools.” The presentation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room N301 at Gateway Community College located at 20 Church Street in New Haven, Connecticut.

The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights will answer your questions and discuss the following topics:

  • School obligations to provide Free Appropriate Public Education under 504
  • Section 504 identification, evaluation and placement
  • Protections under 504 for students with disabilities who are bullied
  • Student access to extracurricular and other nonacademic activities
  • Exclusion and other kinds of discrimination
  • OCR grievance procedures
