East Haven Democrats Elect New Town Committee Jan. 9

This Thursday East Haven Democrats will choose who will serve on their local town committee for the 2014-16 term.

Next week East Haven Democrats will have a chance to cast their vote for who represents them in their political party's local town committee.

The East Haven Democratic Town Committee will hold its caucus this Thursday, Jan. 9, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Senior Center.

At the caucus, all registered Democrats in East Haven will have the opportunity to cast their ballot to nominate and then vote to determine who will make up the membership of their town committee's new board.

New members will each serve a two-year term.

Town committee officers for 2014-16 will then be elected at a later time from members of the new local board.

Following November's municipal election, current East Haven DCT Chairman Gene Ruocco announced he would not be seeking to return as the local party's leader.

For more information about the DTC's 2014 caucus process, a copy of the Connecticut Democratic Party State Central's rules and regulations is posted in the gallery that accompanies this article.

I am indeed seeking one more chance on the Democratic Town Committee as I believe that the members of such and the good people of my district are wise enough to realize that the mistakes I have made are indeed part of being human and part of the human growth process. Such as when a child places their hand on a hot burner it is a mistake they make but one that they must make in order for their growth process to be complete. I have indeed made mistakes the only being I can think of that has never made mistakes in his life was Jesus as he was perfect and I am far from Jesus and therefore far from perfect.

Will Mr. Charles Johnson finally appear to support Mr. Hoff.? http://easthaven.patch.com/groups/opinion/p/looking-for-mr-charles-johnson
Truthful January 04, 2014 at 08:04 PM
How many chances do you want Mr. Hoff? You embarrassed yourself and the DTC of this town. I hope the DTC and the democrats in your district are smart enough to say no more chances and vote against you.
Robert D. Hoff January 04, 2014 at 08:45 PM
Truthful, Let's say for instance your 46 years old that means you've been given 365 mornings <not counting the extra day in leap years>of waking up for 46 years a new chance each morning to wake up give the day your best shot by God? What would make anyone else any different and who are we as humans to define the number of chances someone is given?
Truthful January 04, 2014 at 09:05 PM
You still didn't answer the question. I am not trying to define how many chances someone is given. I just think it would be best if you step aside and continue your charity work without being involved in politics. I'm not trying to sound mean. I am just saying I don't think politics is meant for you.
Robert D. Hoff January 04, 2014 at 09:14 PM
Truthful, you asked How many chances do you want Mr. Hoff? I answered:Truthful, Let's say for instance your 46 years old that means you've been given 365 mornings <not counting the extra day in leap years>of waking up for 46 years a new chance each morning to wake up give the day your best shot by God? What would make anyone else any different and who are we as humans to define the number of chances someone is given? Therefore your question has been answered.
Truthful January 04, 2014 at 09:22 PM
Very well, Mr. Hoff. Avoid the giving a straight answer. Just like in your Fox61 interview. You didn't answer several of the reporters question in an appropriate manner. A good answer to my question would have been something like "I would like a few more chances" or "I would like as many chances as I need to prove I am a good person." Nonetheless, I really hope you consider my advice and drop out of politics. You can't handle it.
Robert D. Hoff January 04, 2014 at 09:34 PM
Truthful, I respect your opinion. Let me ask you which local politicians do you think can "handle it'? Why or why not do you personally feel those politicians do not choose to interact with residents on a routine basis as I often interact with residents like yourself and listen to your opinions and thoughts?
Truthful January 04, 2014 at 09:59 PM
I think every politician that is in office now can handle it. That's why they are in office. From Senator Fasano to Governor Malloy. They can handle the pressure and stress that come with the office. I believe these politicians do interact with the public but please, understand something. They cannot go door to door like you would not can they call every single person they represent. That would mean far too much time when they could otherwise be doing something productive. Now I have a question for you, could you honestly tell me that if you made it on the town council that if a resident confronted you about an issue you would be able to handle it without becoming aggressive towards them?

Truthful, yes I believe I am fully capable of handling issues without becoming aggressive.

What we need are critical lovers of America - patriots who express their faith in their country by working to improve it. - Hubert H. Humphrey.

Although this seems like a conversation between Mr. Huff, and, truthful, the anonymous.........I want to say just this....VOTE FOR MR. HUFF.....A MAN OF INTEGRITY. NO MATTER WHAT LABELS THE PEANUT GALLERY TRY TO PUT ON HIM, AND MAKE HIM WEAR......I do not know him personally, I admit, but when someone hides behind a wall, and throws rocks.......like truthfull-of-it..............LOL...ROTF >>>I just have to laugh and go with the "target" of said rocks....And, by the way............I'm a registered Republican, citizen here in Foxon, since John and Bobby Kennedy brought our great country to a pinnacle in the world, and to the moon...."not because it's easy"..paraphrasing , I WAS YOUNG THEN. Mr. Huff, I, too, am a fan of H.H. Humphrey, a patriot. like us both I say.....Truth Be Told.....

Wasn't going to comment but I just couldn't help myself until Mr. Del Buco made his comment. First, let me ask Mr. Del Buco if he actaully knows Mr. Hoff? Then this question, if Mr. Hoff directed those vial sexual comments to his wife or any female member of his family, how would he react, what would he do? I know what I would do. Hoff is EXTREMELY LUCKY a male family member of that women didn't search him out.
Kristy Turcio Porter January 05, 2014 at 07:19 PM
Richard, I tried to refrain also and you beat me to the proper last name. My feeling is this, Robert, you and I have been cordial to each other at Democratic functions and although I don't know you well enough to comment about you on a personal level, I have only your past practices to base my opinion, of your character, to go on. You have too often been the center of controversy and I don't see how the Democratic Party can come together to do the job we have chosen to do with your disrespectful comments towards women. If you have looked around the DTC meetings you attend , there are many women in that room. How can you expect women to support you after the comments you have made? Women in other countries are still repressed and we don't need anyone here, when we have come so far, degrading us. With that said, the subject of this article is the vote for DTC members this Thursday , January 9th. Those of us running for a seat, would appreciate your support. We have some new people running and we have some very productive past members running. I said it before and I will say it again, the Democratic Party was split during election time and this is our opportunity to come together and elect the right people for the committee, regardless of whom they supported during the primary election .
Robert D. Hoff January 05, 2014 at 10:28 PM
Kristy, Indeed what I said was wrong and I have admitted that both in the much displayed interview that was on Fox and to those I speak with. If we choose to live in the past however we will never forge a new future for the Democratic Party. Yes the party was split during the election and I will pledge here and now to do as I did during the election process to support those candidates who I feel supported me and worked the hardest for the Democratic party regardless of sexual orientation. The party must see Thursday night as the beginning of a reunification and the start of the building of a stronger Democratic party filled with members that are dedicated and will work to ensure the party is healthy and vibrant for years to come. I am sure you will agree that when it comes to elections and the support of the party I am a dedicated, hard worker. If those that are willing to work hard and have displayed such a willingness want my support then I ask the same of those seeking my support.
Richard Poulton January 06, 2014 at 07:41 AM
Sorry Kristy, I will be a gentlemen next time and wait for you to go first. Question to anyone? Has anyone seen, heard, or read a personal applogy by Hoff directed to the Patch women commentator, the person he directed his comments too? Yes, a Fox news appology but I haven't seen anything directed to directly her. This my friends is the real problem with Hoff.
Robert D. Hoff January 06, 2014 at 02:02 PM
He said he sincerely apologizes to all women voters and anyone else his comments may have offended. Read more: http://foxct.com/2013/08/20/town-council-candidates-sexual-comments-questioned/#ixzz2pe8NFN8V

In response to Richard's question of: Question to anyone? Has anyone seen, heard, or read a personal applogy by Hoff directed to the Patch women commentator, the person he directed his comments too? An Open Letter to Readers. In Response to Dan McCann Posted by Robert D. Hoff , August 20, 2013 at 12:06 PM 16 Comments Recommend The following is in response to Dan McCann. I would like to address the number of attempts at defamation and character assassination I have experienced lately. The comments referred to in the following article are mine. I realized they were inappropriate and hurtful and they were removed shortly after having been posted, which has been acknowledged in the article. I am a passionate advocate for the disabled, seniors, and those who struggle daily earning poverty wages. When I engaged in the online debate about the work of a dear friend of mine I became angry and should have taken a step back and calmed down before hitting reply. People say things they don't mean all the time. I am human and make mistakes. Once cooler heads prevailed, I indeed deleted the remarks. In response to previous articles, I have been arrested but NEVER convicted of any crime and my police record is clean. The presumption of innocence until proven guilty is in the U.S. Constitution, the Fifth Amendment to the Bill of Rights. These personal attacks are not issue based, because opponents to my candidacy have no ideas. They resort to name calling, bullying, and dirty politics because there is no platform; they are out of touch with the residents of East Haven and the needs of our community. As to the process, I was endorsed by the Democratic Party of East Haven. Perhaps this was based on my years of community service and desire to fix the issues in my district from absentee landlord caused blight to xenophobia. Perhaps I was chosen because Gary forced his “slate” to disrespectfully walk out of the meeting after he lost the endorsement, showing that he doesn't know or care about process and rules of order. The ballots have been printed and to remove my name would cost the town money, a cost I am not willing to put upon taxpayers. The other candidates on my line have not endorsed me, that's not how it works. I hate to give civics lessons this far into a campaign, but simply put the process is as follows: The DTC endorses people for the top line on a ballot. Those who are not selected are forced to petition if they wish to appear. The other candidates on the ballot have no input on who they run with, unless they serve on the DTC. As a result of the DePalma supporters leaving the meeting, the nominations were done by a show of hands. I have no idea who voted for me or against me to be on the ballot and if Gary didn't want me to be a Democratically Endorsed Candidate for Town Council, he should have stayed in the room and exercised his right to vote against me. Again, I apologize to anyone who may have been offended by my thoughtless comments. I have indeed deleted them, and continue to try and hold my tongue even when arguing with people about topics that are near and dear to my heart. I know vitriol won't convince anyone. Why doesn't Gary know that? 16 Comments Recommend Comments+ Leave a Comment Beth August 20, 2013 at 12:42 PM The comment: "they were removed shortly after having been posted" is true but they were NOT deleted by YOU they were deleted by the editor! Can you ever tell the truth?
Richard Poulton January 06, 2014 at 06:48 PM
See folks, 800 plus words and not one mention of making contact with that women to indicate how sorry he was. He just can't make himself do it. Just because something is deleted doesn't count. Man up Hoff!
Bob Fawkes January 06, 2014 at 08:12 PM
I will vote for any individual, Democrat, Republican, Independent, or Trolley, who promises to root out the festering cancer of nepotism starting with amending the Town Charter to make EVERY town position civil service based. No more appointing cronies to department heads, family and friends, 'business partners' to suck off the town teet. End the nincompoopery once and for all. CHANGE. An idea whose time has come.
Kristy Turcio Porter January 06, 2014 at 08:23 PM
Robert, Gary did not force anyone to walk out, Stacy Gravino stayed and look how that turned out. This isn't about Gary, why are you singling him out? You are doing the exact thing that we have vowed to stop doing, so perhaps you are not ready to move forward and that is NOT what the Democratic Party needs .
Robert D. Hoff January 06, 2014 at 08:25 PM
Kristy, Please check the dates on those postings they are from the archives of the Patch.

Hoffy...reading your posts is like watching a daredevil who doesn't realize he can't jump 800 school buses in pools of alligators with a mini-bike. Ya wanna turn away, ya know tons of people told him to stop...but his short-sightedness and immense ego make it so he can't. So you watch...feel bad for about 30 seconds then laugh and laugh for days. Keep posting...we all need a little comedy from time to time. Does everyone remember how funny it was when somebody wasn't allowed in the Chairman's HQ (ya know the one near S& S)? It was as if Gilligan got thrown off his own island. Poor soul looked so sad at Senior Day...Like a dog without a bone. Like a ship without a port. Like Milli without Vanilli. The youngster barely talked to anyone, I can only guess it was because the puppet master had to pull his hand out so fast over the negative impact of that young fellas word and actions.

I too would like to know that Lou. Is Patch going to do a story on that Julie?
