Wind Advisory in Effect for East Haven

"These winds could cause blowing snow, reducing visibilities to below 1 mile at times."

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from 10 a.m. Sunday to midnight Sunday night for coastal Connecticut, Long Island, New York City and other areas nearby.

Winds northwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. "The strongest winds are expected from Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening. Winds this strong, in addition to make travel difficult at times, could bring down branches and some tree limbs. In addition, in areas receiving snowfall, these winds could cause blowing snow, reducing visibilities to below 1 mile at times."

The NWS says winds this strong "can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution."

Quincy Vagell on WXEdge/wtnh.com says

Western Connecticut will see lighter amounts of snow, with the heaviest amounts closer to the Rhode Island border. I feel like most areas across Connecticut, especially east of I-91, will pick up 1 to 3 inches. If anyone did get more snow, that would most likely be confined to southeastern sections, which were under an Advisory.

The good news? We might get some sun around the middle of the week, according to the NWS. Here is the extended forecast from the NWS:

  • Sunday: A chance of snow, mainly before 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. Windy, with a northwest wind 22 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 11. Wind chill values as low as -3. Blustery, with a northwest wind 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph.
  • Washington's Birthday: Sunny, with a high near 31. Wind chill values as low as -2. Northwest wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
  • Monday Night: Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 23. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southwest after midnight.
  • Tuesday: A chance of snow showers before 10am, then rain showers likely. Areas of fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 43. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
