Who Is East Haven's Person of the Year?

TIME magazine named President Obama their person of the year for the second time. Tell us who you think should win from our town!

On Dec. 19, Time magazine named President Obama their Person of the Year, again!

The magazine invited votes on 40 candidates, including the president, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un.

Other options included The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, and Apple CEO Tim Cook.

But, the president took the title again four years after he first won the award as president-elect in 2008.

But who cares about the same-old, same-old? Who is East Haven's Person of the Year — the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”?

Tell us your pick in the comment section below!

My choice is the East Haven clergy, who formed "First Step towards Healing". On Feb 1st, Rev Karen Johnson(Old Stone Church), Rev Stanley Kemmerer(Christ & the Epiphany), Rev John Lavorgna(Our Lady of Pompeii), Rev Gerard Masters(St Clare), and Rev Thomas Sievel(St Vincent de Paul) delivered a joint message of justice, reconciliation, unity and peace .

Bill Clinton got the Nobel too for doing nothing too ! At least Jimmy Carter did something to deserve it ! After further review think they want an East Haven pick , I say NOBODY , you've all been bad this year ! So unless you know a Fireman or teacher or other hero , lets let sleeping dogs lie .
Richard Poulton December 28, 2012 at 03:05 PM
After giving this some great thought, and in ruling out any and all politicians, I can come up with only one person suitable to receive such "award". Interim Police Chief Brent Larrabee. This man comes out of retirement, after moving to Florida, comes to EH to take over a PD in the mist of termoil, and with patient leadership starts turning the department forward. He is my pick for Person of the Year. By the way, I hope he made the cut for final interview for the job. We shall know shortly.
Nick Palladino December 28, 2012 at 03:59 PM
Richard, I agree 100%. After the mess left from the last chief the dept. is now in the right direction. I too hope that he is given the job. Then if the town hall stays out of Police business, we will see a great PD again. And I don't care who is in Town hall. Just let the new chief run things the way it should be.

Chief Larabee
Julie Weisberg (Editor) December 28, 2012 at 04:23 PM
Richard: It would be a local, East Haven-related person. And so far, from private emails I've received and comments here, Chief Larrabee is leading the nominations.

Chief Larrabee

I'm torn between 2--Chief Larabee or Dan McCann for exposing Josee Wales!!
Onyx December 28, 2012 at 06:45 PM
I agree with Sue Stacey. I would add father Manship to the list, but I think he received this honor last year...
Michelle Petroccio December 28, 2012 at 07:34 PM
Chief Larabee. So far, he's done a wonderful job. I notice in arrests that are lublished there are more stringent fines and higher bond amounts posted. Makes someone breaking the law in East Haven think on a more concious level about consequence!

No one in public service should be given this award seeing how they are all paid very well to do the jobs they perform. I nominate Sean Hopkinson for his extensive volunteer work in the community! Work that he doesn't receive a hefty salary, pension, or town vehicle to drive at his leisure!
Richard Poulton December 28, 2012 at 08:56 PM
I suggest you give us readers a little more information on your recommendation. It may help. Lots of people volunteer their time in many ways.
Ignore December 28, 2012 at 09:35 PM
LOL! Translation: Poulton is a cop who disagrees with you. His way of challenging free speech is to ask you to elaborate. Ignore him. He uses Rovian tactics to intimidate and provoke.
Richard Poulton December 28, 2012 at 09:43 PM
Hate to disappoint you but you are mistaken. I am requesting that John P give the Patch more details on his recommendation. Get your head out of your A**. By the way I am not a "cop" as you put it. By the way, try coming out of the closet so to speak and use a real name. What are you afraid of????
Jacobo Arnez December 28, 2012 at 09:47 PM
I say me or rather my alter ego should be man of the year! After all he is a socialist who leans towards Communism, just like our current President. He is DEAD just like over 40 of our past Presidents and has a humungous EGO. So nominate Jacobo Arbenz (Becki) as "person of the year"!
cheryl December 28, 2012 at 09:51 PM
father manship? sorry but i so disagree..i think he has cause more trouble than helped and he helps to harbor ppl living here in east have that are here illegally which is against the law
cheryl December 28, 2012 at 09:52 PM
i second that,,sean hopkinson receives no salary for what he does and is a great role model for east haven
Red December 28, 2012 at 10:09 PM
"Get your head out of your A$$"? Charming... Poulton is an ex-cop with an inordinate need to have the last word. Regardless of how trite and irrelevant his point may be.... According to Poulton plagiarism, mimicry, cyberstalking and gross hypocrisy are all fair game.
Red December 28, 2012 at 10:12 PM
Poulton in his typical delusional, grandiose style imagines fear in place of sheer disdain. Most of the the time I pity him.

The P O Y not only a person, at times its be a thing. And if there is one thing that has made this burg infamous around the world and make the biggest impact on everything in town its the "TACO". This burg went from being an unknown little by the way place to being talked about in Australia, England and the fareast jes because of one statement. Now the whole world knows us. So I nominate the "TACO" as person/thing of the year in East Haven.
RescuePatchKids December 29, 2012 at 12:42 AM
HAHAHAHHAHA yeah right! He doesn't need an award, he pats himself on the back enough. Maybe he can relocate, and get the civilian rescue squad that he was advertising during Sandy off the ground. Volunteerism isn't about the need to tell everyone who will listen what you do at every pass.
Taco December 29, 2012 at 03:30 AM
LOL! I had to bite my tongue to keep myself from uttering the same sardonic sentiments.
Bob Fawkes December 29, 2012 at 04:53 AM
Jacobo Arbenz is not Becki. Or Doreen. Or Patty. Or any of the other incorrect suspects that the Maturo regime suspect's is underminding their gravy train. The wisdom of the elders eludes you Mr. Arnez. Ponder not the irrelevent such as some "Person of the Year" jive. Figure out how to disengage from the system that enslaves you in its rat race. Imagine a day in the not too distant dystopian future, when attorneys for example, actually do useful work for the first time in their lives! Picking fruit, digging irrigation ditches, building roads, bridges, repairing bicycles or shoes...
cheryl December 29, 2012 at 02:31 PM
oh please cant you ppl let the taco thing go? its over and done with move on and grow up
CAjones December 30, 2012 at 04:33 PM
It was talked about for sure, and most people who talked about said how ridiculous it was to take that statement and twist it into something so mean and hateful, which it wasn't nor was it intended to be......So in your asinine vain I nominate a giant HORSES ARSE.......... for YOU and idiots like you. Certainly you are the HORSES ARSE of the YEAR, and beyond!
Bruce December 30, 2012 at 07:35 PM
I nominate the four officers who got screwed by the Feds for doing their jobs.
ASmith December 31, 2012 at 05:18 AM
Still think the "TACO" was the biggest news story in the burgs history. know Mayor Jo(k)es supporters wish it didnt happen but it did and its the first and last time this burg will make the ole international news scene. so grouse all ya want but yall cant change it. twer the only time the whole world was a talkin about East Haven. good or bad thats it.
CAjones December 31, 2012 at 12:28 PM
Like you a TACO is not a real person. This thread is about picking the "PERSON" of the year. You shouldn't worry though, whatever your species and whatever your gender, you are still undoubtedly the BIGGEST HORSE'S ARSE in town. I am confident you will hold this status well into the new year.
