With the and now behind us, there are only a handful of calender days remaining in the summer season before the official start of fall — the autumn equinox — later this month.
And as we take some time to look back on this past summer, you may remember seeing groups of teenagers tending to town-owned parcels: planting flowers, weeding, picking up trash and even laying stone and mulch.
The group of East Haven students are part of a larger town-run program, which includes both boys and girls, that provides summer employment for the teens.
Some may do work at town hall or other town departments, but one group of boys spend their summer hours beautifying the town.
Although this summer's program has come to an end, East Haven Patch had an earlier opportunity to meet with the students — as well as East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr and Department of Public Service members Mike Streeto and Pat Farraiolo — to get and overview of the program and the students' hard work this season.
