Unity March Might Attract Up to 1,000 Saturday

The demonstration will protest reports of unfair treatment of Latinos by East Haven police officers.

The to protest violence and unfair treatment of Latinos in East Haven is expected to draw a crowd.

The New Haven Register reported 600 to 1,000 people are expected to join the march starting on Main Street at 11 a.m. and ending at Margaret Tucker Park near Town Hall.

The Register article, by reporter Susan Misur, said Mayor Joseph Maturo does not plan to attend, while the will deploy the entire police force for the traffic safety detail.

Criticism of Maturo and the East Haven police have increased since early this month when four police officers under indictment for constitutional rights violations against Latinos.

As first reported by East Haven Patch, the group organizing the march, the n, is among those who called for Maturo’s resignation, because when asked what he planned to do for Latinos in town the mayor said he for dinner.
