No need to wait until April 23rd to get ride of your scrap metal. Place it out on the curb today and scrappers pull pick it up overnight.

Jacob I do agree we should not need a metal pick up this year Are they Charging the town for this if so what a waste of money The Scrapers are out in full force looking for any metal at all Just put it on the curb it will be gone almost immediately BIG WASTE JOE WAKE UP save the town money
Lise Cavallaro March 20, 2012 at 02:44 PM
and what are residents supposed to do if the scrappers don't come..look at their old appliances on the curb?
Bob Fawkes March 20, 2012 at 03:11 PM
Ms. Cavallaro, the scrappers usually drive by your house every night. Usually between 1 - 3am. If for some reason, the scrap isn't picked up ther first night, simply take 5 minutes of your time the next morning and put up a craigslist ad under the "FREE" section, announcing the "FREE" scrap and rest assured, the junk will be gone by the following morning.
James March 20, 2012 at 03:26 PM
That is your choice The scrapers are just trying to make a living or just a little extra money Not sure if the town has to pay for scrap metal pick up if so they need to put out for a bid some company may do it for free due to the high scrap metal prices
Bob Fawkes March 20, 2012 at 03:57 PM
Good Lord Ms. Cavallaro, relax. I simply made a suggestion for folks such as yourself to be rid of your junk before the end of April. You seem to waste a lot of time everyday throwing your opinion around on the Patch, so what's 5 minutes to place a craigslist ad? If you want to hold onto your junk until April 23rd, then, please, by all means do so. I hope you have a "plan B" in place when the town doesn't come and get your junk before Memorial Day.
Connie March 20, 2012 at 04:32 PM
No offense to anyone, but I don't think I would want to place a "free" ad on Craigslist with my address in it, just doesn't seem like a safe thing to do.
Bob Fawkes March 20, 2012 at 04:46 PM
Connie, You wouldn't put your actual # address in the craigslist ad. Just say something along the lines of "FREE Scrap metal, appliances - XYZ Street, East Haven - You load, you haul away." And again, only if the scrappers don't stop by pick up the junk after the first night or two after you put the stuff out on the curb. I, for one, don't live in fear of my fellows neighbors. It's not a good thing to think each one to be some sort of thief or murderer. Most scrappers are simply hard working blue collar people, trying to make ends meet by collecting and selling the metal. My paesano Luigi has been known to make a buck or two this way. They do a service by removing your junk for you. If you feel safer having the Town remove the junk, then wait until April 23rd. No harm done either way.

I don't know where my comment went..but anyway Jacobo, you are on here far more than I am. If you don't like my opinions don't read them.
Bob Fawkes March 20, 2012 at 06:11 PM
You asked a question (in a snotty manner), I responded; politely. Your 'opinions' are largely irrelevant to me so fire away all you want on your employers dime. I am retired so I do have free time to read and comment. Have a nice day.
Lise Cavallaro March 20, 2012 at 06:17 PM
I don't see anything snotty about my question. But aaannnyyyyywaaayyyy....why don't you get outside and enjoy the sparkling day.
Greg Tart March 20, 2012 at 07:34 PM
Be careful Ms.Cavallaro- if you don't put your old toaster out tonight, Jacobo will call you a racist. If you put out a refrigerator, you will be made an honorary progressive.

I think the bickering is a little to much my house can be seen from rt 80 Metal does not stay on the curb at my house more than a day or so You say your afraid of the scrapers they are going to cruse the streets the week of the bulk pick up any way looking for free scrap metal why not put it on the curb and get rid of it or would you rather hoard it till bulk pick up. So what is the difference now or then
James March 20, 2012 at 08:56 PM
With the price of scrap metal Trash Master should pay for the privilege of picking up the metal not charge the town at the tax payers expense and then sell the scrap and make more money WAKE UP JOE save the money unemployed people all over the state looking for scrap metal as a way to survive in today's job market

Mr. Tart's comment is a prime example of the Matrix at work. Disengaging the mind. Engaging the emotion. Let go of the social and political conditioning that has confused you and warped your mind, Mr. Tart. Look within yourself to find right or wrong, good or bad.
