[UPDATED] Snow's No Problem Today for East Haven

East Haven Schools may have had an early dismissal, but the forecast remains rain for the rest of the afternoon and into this evening.

Update at 2:30 p.m.

Although students did end up getting late-minute early dismissal after all, the current National Weather Service forecast for East Haven maintains the storm system moving through the area today will remain primarily a rain event.

In fact, earlier this morning the weather service had predicted the shoreline would receive about a half-inch of snow. But with the temperature hovering around 40 degrees the precipitation has remained rain.

The rain is expected to continue into the early evening hours, with a chance of sleet and freezing rain overnight. The rain will finally begin to taper off during the afternoon tomorrow, although there could be some scattered showers and flurries Thursday evening.

And Friday's forecast still calls for a high of 44 degrees with partly sunny skies.

Original Story (Posted at 9:10 a.m.)

Although towns and cities are readying to receive several inches of snow today, East Haven should see no more than an half-inch dusting by early this afternoon, according to the latest forecast by the National Weather Service.

And most of that new snow will melt aways as temperatures rise along the shoreline during the day, and the snowfall changes over into rain.

At this time, there have been no advisories or warnings issued for by the weather service.

And, unlike many across the state who have issued early dismissals, East Haven Public Schools will go about their regularly scheduled school day today.

Tonight, the rain is expected to mix with some freezing rain and sleet. That wintry mix wil continue over night and then change into rain by the early morning.

Friday thing will clear, with a high of about 44 degrees.
