Sally Cammarano: Surprised By The Devastation

Her family will meet with their insurance company and FEMA to determine if they can rebuild.

Sally Cammarano said the damage caused by Hurricane Irene took her by surprise when she first saw it Monday, the day after the storm.

"I wasn’t ready for the devastation," she said.

Her son’s beach house on Cosey Beach Avenue was badly damaged by the tropical tempest. Town officials came by on Monday and declared it unsafe for human occupancy.

She said she was unable to view the damage on Sunday, although she heard about it from her neighbors. It still came as a surprise to see it first-hand.

Cammarano said she doesn’t know if the house can be rebuilt. The family is talking to their insurance company and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to see whether it is financially possible.
