Quinnipiac Stages 'Seven' for Women's Rights

The daily roundup of news and events from college campuses.

Qunnipiac University’s production of “Seven” is playing at the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven from Nov. 10-13. The play based on interviews with women from around the world who suffered violence and abuse but later became advocates for the women in their countries. To that end, the cast members portray real women from Nigeria, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Northern Ireland, Russia and Guatemala.

"The piece is an extremely powerful evocation of the horrific abuse these women suffered and their strength and courage in transcending the trauma they experienced in order to help women in their countries to avoid the experiences the characters suffered,” said Crystal Brian, professor of theater at Quinnipiac who is directing the production, in a press release.

After each performance, cast members will discuss the issues raised in the production with the audience. Curtain time is 8 p.m. on Nov. 10-11;  4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13.

  • Sam Harris, Yale University professor of corporate law, explains in this 12-minute video how the U.S. government’s laws against insider trading on Wall Street are “simultaneously at war with one another.” At the root of the problem are the U.S. Supreme Court and Securities and Exchange Commission, which take entirely different stances on insider trading laws.
