Plane Crashes; Dog Rescued; McDonald’s Goes Green; Vietnam Vet Honored; and More

STRATFORD – A small passenger plane crashed Saturday evening as it came in for a landing at Sikorsky Airport. Both passengers were transported to the hospital – one for serious injuries, according to fire officials.

MILFORD – A 9-year-old girl and her father have achieved hero status after they rescued a 140-pound Great Dane that was stuck on a rock along the Housatonic River.

The young girl spotted the dog while out for a boat ride with dad on Tuesday. The dog, Scooby, had reportedly gone missing a day earlier and, by the time its rescuers arrived, had reached a point of exhaustion from trying to escape its perilous position.

HAMDEN – The memory of a soldier killed in Vietnam will forever live on through his family and friends and now through a street named in his honor.

On Friday, town, state and federal officials joined the family of Sergeant First Class John T. Gallagher to name a street in his honor. Gallagher was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968.
