Mayoral Candidate Finkle's Son Arrested on Drug Charges [Updated]

The 24-year-old son of Republican challenger John Finkle was charged by the North Haven Police Department.

The son of Republican mayoral candidate John Finkle was arrested last week -along with two other East Haven residents - after allegedly trying to obtain prescription drugs with forged documents.

According to North Haven Police, Jonathan Finkle, 24, and four other suspects allegedly tried to obtain prescription drugs at the town’s Target store in June.

Police said he turned himself in on Friday and was charged with illegally obtaining drugs, conspiracy to obtain drugs, criminal attempt to possess narcotics, second-degree forgery and conspiracy to commit second-degree forgery.

Last month, Brian DiCarlo, 32, of Waterbury, Joseph Pollio, 29, of East Haven, and Christopher DiLungo, 24, of North Branford, were arrested and charged with similar counts. Also arrested was Armand Deluca, of East Haven, who was charged with obtaining a controlled drug through fraud, conspiracy to commit obtaining a drug through fraud, attempt to commit posession of narcotics, second-degree larceny, second-degree forgery and conspiracy to commit second-degree forgery.

A police investigation into the fake prescriptions began after the pharmacy reported that five men were involved in trying to purchase drugs using fraudulent paperwork.

Jonathan Finkle was released without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 11.

In March, he was arrested in Tampa, Fla., on charges of possession of cocaine and obstructing an officer. The outcome of the charges was not immediately available.

The elder Finkle received the in July to run against incumbent Mayor April Capone, who is hoping for a third term. A call to Finkle’s cell phone was not returned, and the voicemail was full.

Finkle for Mayor campaign manager Joseph Zullo released the following statement:

"Unfortunately, in today's troubling times, most families deal in some way, even if not directly, with the issue of substance abuse. The entire campaign and all of its volunteers send their deepest prayers and thoughts to the Finkle family during this difficult time."

"The entire Finkle family deserves its privacy as it deals with this issue," Zullo said. "It is entirely a personal matter."
