LETTER: Media Needs to Treat East Haven, Mayor More 'Fairly'

"It's about time the media start treating our Mayor and the Town of East Haven fairly," East Haven Patch reader Marcia Federico writes in her letter to the editor.

To the Editor:

I recently heard about the Mayor's rescue of a man in harms way during Hurricane Sandy.

The Mayor was on the towns payloader surveying the flooding on Hemingway ave. when, near the intersection of Coe Ave and Silver Sands Rd, he observed a man who appeared to be in distress in the flooded road way with only his head above water.

The Mayor directed, Chris Plamer, the driver to drive toward the man and procecceded to get the man into the payloaders bucket and drive him to the Fire Department for medical attention.

I ask why the media did not report this selfless act.

It's about time the media start treating our Mayor and the Town of East Haven fairly.

I am quite certain the family of this man is very grateful.

Marcia Federico

[Editor's Note: The New Haven Register did publish a story about Mayor Maturo's participation in the water rescue during the hurricane. That article can be found here.]

Good stuff does not usually make news. Only the crap stuff makes more news and that is what has been generating all the poor stories about East Haven.

Taco Joe brought back a corrupt, abusive police chief, all but apologized for the abusive, profiling officers Gallo was charged with supervising, and proceed to make glaring racial slurrs on national television. He also gets a disability check each month but is clearly not disabled

A single act of kindness cannot overshadow years of corruption and incompetence.

Maturo, McCann, DePalma, and the rest of their self serving police-state sanctioning, plagiarizing, cronies do not belong in what should be civilized, compassionate, leadership positions
Red December 02, 2012 at 05:02 PM
Taco Joe is a part of the problem. Mayor April was a part of the solution.

Atonement, Better check your facts.....The Mayor does NOT receive a disability check. And who are YOU to determine who is and isn't disabled??

And if you are so savvy about how East Haven graft works, perhaps you can expliain how Taco Joe manages to pony up to the local welfare trough without qualification.!

Are you talking to me? I don't understand what you're even talking about.

Maybe we could do away with the "Taco Joe" name..that might help.

So, the act of kindness can't be recognized?

Beth, You are correct the Mayor does not recieve a disability check every month, he has not recieved one every since the State OF CT stopped him from recieving one ,and all the years that he recieved one ILLEGALLY adds up to I believe in the neighborhood of approx $200,000!!! Maybe your facts need to be checked !!
grayson14 December 03, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Atonement, I do not believe the he gets a disability check every month because the State Of Ct stopped that this was ILLEGAL !! My question is will he have to pay back ALL the money that was paid to him that he was not suppose to recieve but did recieve all the years he was mayor? Was there a special deal made? Thats a lot of money we are talking about !! Getting back to the payloader, Why was he on it in the first place? This town has emergency vehicles such as fire trucks etc to handle all emergencies !!

In my opinion Mayor Maturo should have to payback the monies that were wrongfully obtained and at the expense of The Taxpayer.
