Poll: Is The Media to Blame? (VIDEO)

Does the press bear a large portion of the responsibility for the negative media microscope the town of East Haven now finds itself under? Are reporters playing "gotcha journalism" with East Haven's mayor?

It was a long week for Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr and the town of 's residents.

First, four officers were for alleged criminal rights violations and others, with the possibility that several more officersreportedly including East Haven Chief of Police — are also targest of the ongoing investigtion.

Then, over the weekend, Diaz reported that Maturo himself may be one of the many subjects of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's probe — a charge that the mayor denies.

And now, Maturo starts off this week with a new controversy, as some are criticizing the mayor for comments he made about Latinos during an interview with New Haven Register reporter . The video clip is posted above.

Who Is to Blame?

While most agree the mayor's tacos remark was at best insensitive and poorly timed, many residents — whether here in East Haven Patch's comment threads or in the letter to the editor pages of the state's daily newspapers — have argued that it is the media, not Maturo, who is most to blame for putting the town underneath the public's microscope and casting the entire community in a negative light.

In an interview aired Sunday morning on WFSB's "Face the State," Maturo said it was the media who was hurting the town the most, by continuing to report on and replaying the taco comment clip.
